Crosscutting Themes
In Congo, it is hard to find accurate information. This makes people prey to manipulation and leaves them without a broad base of knowledge they need to walk through life. They do not know how to obtain facts about their civil rights. The DRC holds elections but many citizens are not sure how to vote correctly or have no access to voting. They do not have reliable facts about how to protect their families from preventable disease, or practice family planning. Communities need a trusted source that will not lead them astray.
Trust is key. People in Congo are victimized by those who spread false information. Farmers lose their land, and families lose their savings. In conflict and disaster, many lose their family and do not know where to turn.
Our partners work to provide safe spaces where people can find reliable information. AGIR RDC trains and deploys trusted peer educators who work with community leaders, go out into the community and teach skills and share information. Pole Institute conducts socioeconomic research, has a library and radio station that provides accurate and relevant information to the community. They work together to present a range of information in a variety of ways so that the people of Congo can make choices that lead to a better life.
